Laziness is the driving force of humanity. In other words, people will put in a tremendous amount of effort to make their work easier.

I’ve always been drawn to automation and making work easier in general. In high school, I studied automation technology. I always enjoyed finding ways to make work easier for people in any form. I spent a lot of time making tasks easier for myself and others. In college, before Facebook existed, I created community pages for students. Initially, it was just for my group, but then other groups joined, and later, other years as well.

The project started with sharing cheat sheets, more correctly study materials, and later we became a social network for all students. After leaving school, Spoluzaci.cz by Seznam.cz became more popular, and I regretted not continuing with the idea. I didn’t miss the next opportunity.

It started because I wanted to make my work easier. I liked taking photos with an analog camera; it was 2004, and digital cameras were still in their infancy. I wanted to send the photos to friends, so I had them scanned onto a CD at a digital lab. However, each photo was several megabytes. This seems trivial today, but at that time, email inboxes had a 10 MB limit 🙂. The photos needed to be reduced to about 100 kB and sent via email. Later, I thought it would be better to just send a link to an album online. That’s how the Rajče.net portal was born, which at one point was used by a quarter of the Czech internet. The primary goal was to automate a task (posting photos online) and provide added value to users.

This brings me to my current engagement. I’ve always been close to artificial intelligence and robots. In college, I worked on a project where I taught a neural network using genetic algorithms. After college, I created a small robot that could see the world through a 3D camera and move autonomously.

My love for robots extended into my new job, where we are developing a smart Aiviro Robot, that can control user interfaces like a human. It can ease routine tasks more easily than ever before. I’ll elaborate on its magic some other time.
